Hydrogen – Sustainable energy balance for industry and transport
With its wealth of energy, Norway has great opportunities to become a global player in a growing hydrogen market. Both as a hydrogen producer and technology supplier. There is a lot of talk about hydrogen, but what actually happens?
The symposium wants to facilitate good and concrete discussions about the hydrogen possibilities in Norway with Vestland as a point of departure. We want to get to the bottom of opportunities and solutions that move in different sectors, such as sea transport, land transport, industry, export and technology.
This year's hydrogen symposium will focus on how we can think differently about sustainable industry and transport.
We look forward to meeting you at the power station in Tyssedal for insight and good discussions about where the hydrogen path is going.

Jan Carsten is general manager of Evig Grønn AS and senior adviser at the Norwegian Hydrogen Forum. He has worked in various positions and projects to promote the development and use of hydrogen in Norway. Gjerløw is currently leading the H2 Truck project, which aims to bring the first hydrogen cars to the Oslo region. The project has partners from the entire value chain. Jan Carsten has extensive experience from management and participation in national and international projects. He has been managing director of Hynor Lillestrøm, a test center for hydrogen and fuel cell technology, and director of Oslo Renewable Energy and Environmental Cluster. He was Europe's first private owner of a hydrogen fuel cell car, the Hyundai iX35, in July 2015.

Lars Ole Bjørnsrud has more than 35 years of experience from the maritime and oil and gas industries. Since 2003, has held management positions in marketing and communications at TechnipFMC and has been involved in the company's renewable venture Deep Purple. Now works as an independent consultant and is chairman of Hardanger Hydrogen Hub
Before this, he worked at Kongsberg Maritime and was head of the company's Asia operations in Singapore. Lars Ole is a qualified computer engineer from Kongsberg University of Engineering.
Thor Henrik Hagen
Hydrogen Solutions AS
Thor Henrik is CEO of Hydrogen Solutions AS. The company's goal is to be a serious player in the Norwegian hydrogen market and deliver scalable locally produced green hydrogen.
The company develops, builds, owns and operates hydrogen plants. HYDS is the largest owner and operator of Stord Hydrogen and will open its second hydrogen plant in Egersund, Kaupanes Hydrogen, on 8 February this year. Here, in addition to being the owner, HYDS has been an EPCI supplier and will be the operating operator.
HYDS has several projects under development and is working, among other things, on the development of an overall control system for hydrogen plants that has been used in the company's first hydrogen plant, which ensures that they are automated and can be controlled remotely.
Thor Henrik is an economist and state authorized auditor and has previously worked at KPMG, as CFO at GK Elektro, head of control at Skanska Norge and was a business developer at renewable power supplier SKL.

Sylvi Høiland is head of research at Equinor ASA, Technology Digital & Innovation (TDI), Hydrogen Value Chain Technologies, with particular responsibility for hydrogen safety, production and underground storage. Equinor is an energy company that has committed to long-term value creation in a low-carbon future, and TDI has a role in closing technology and competence gaps in order to realize the company's ambitions for value creation, emission reduction and the development of low-carbon solutions.
The R&T portfolio for hydrogen includes activities along the entire value chain from production to end use. Sylvi started at the company in 2012 and worked with production and technical integrity for the company's O&G facilities before she moved to the company's venture within Renewables & Low Carbon in TDI in 2023. Sylvi has a PhD in Science from the University of Bergen, and has previously worked for UiB, Unifob Petroleum and SINTEF.

HVL
Oltedal works with research in green energy, and rents the hydrogen venture at HVL. HVL has a leading role in several major hydrogen projects, and Oltedal is deputy director of the research center for hydrogen HyValue. Ongoing research activities include hydrogen production from offshore wind, and new materials for electrolysis and fuel cells. HVL is also the regional coordinator in the recently approved EU project H2CoVE, which is a European investment in the development of hydrogen expertise. HVL both teaches, supervises student assignments and offers further and further education courses in hydrogen technology.

Pål Kårbø has since 1 . February 2020 was general manager of the driving company E134 Haukelivegen AS. This company is owned by 4 county councils, 34 municipalities and 8 companies from west to east on the E134. From February 2024, through his job in E134, he is also general manager of the company Hydrogenvegen AS, this company is owned by the municipalities of Notodden, Ullensvang and Kvinnhera. The purpose of Hydrogenvegen AS is to work for the development of filling stations for Hydrogen at strategic locations on the E134. As part of the future strategy, the company is working to bring in more owners and partners - both municipalities and city councils.

Tor Martin Misund is senior advisor for renewable energy in Vestland County Municipality, and is responsible for energy and grid connection in the Green Region Vestland project.
He has been project manager for the Regional plan for renewable energy in Vestland county, which is the political plan for increased production of renewable energy in the county. This plan also includes energy carriers and energy efficiency through the interaction of the renewable energy sources in our power system.
Tor Martin has a Master of Energy Management from BI Business School.

Charlotte Berge works as Chief Project Officer in Hydro Havrand with responsibility for all projects. Hydro Havrand is focused on decarbonisation of Hydro's industry with a special focus on "high heat processes". Last year we had the world's first full-scale industrial test in a smelter in Navarra, Spain, as well as working on maturing projects at several Hydro sites.
Before Havrand, Charlotte worked as field development director at Lundin Norway. Before this, she has several years' experience from Equinor, Aker and the USA. Charlotte has an M. Sc. from NTNU and the University of Texas at Austin.

Mayor Roald Aga Haug (Ap), Ullensvang municipality 2020-2023. Odda municipality 2015-2020. Haug has been a politician since 2003 and has been active in the areas of business and transport. Graduated Cand.Mag, (association/law) and Family therapist.
Ullensvang has 11,000 inhabitants and is the largest in Norway in terms of power production. The municipality is "Norway's Fruit Garden". In Ullensvang you will find a varied business community with high value creation. The largest industries are power, industry, agriculture, the fruit industry, aquaculture and tourism.
Together with the mayors of Kvinnherad and Notodden, Haug has helped start up the Hydrogen Road.

Lars Kristian Åtland Skårberg is a senior project manager at TechnipFMC, and involved in the Green Platform project "Subsea Hydrogen Storage Qualification Project", a consortium working towards the goal of qualifying a technical solution for underwater hydrogen storage. The consortium consists of TechnipFMC, Statkraft, Wilhelmsen, UMOE, Nymo, Odda Technology, the University of South-Eastern Norway and Kongsberg Innovation.
Lars Kristian is a civil engineer from NTNU, and since 2007 has worked at TechnipFMC, with various roles within the oil industry, with the main emphasis on project implementation and management of subsea system deliveries to Norwegian and international customers.

Owe Hagesæther has more than 35 years of varied experience from Technology Management, Change and Project Management, Top Management and Board positions, International Networking and Business Development, Marketing and Sales Management.
He has his experience from branches like Oil & Gas and Energy, Banking & Finance, IT & Telecom, Management Consulting and Maritime Technology. Hagesæther is an entrepreneur and former Founding Partner of Nordic Integrator Group.
Mr Hagesæther holds a M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from University of Bergen and a MBA degree in Strategic Management from Norwegian School of Economics.

Hydrogen storage at the bottom of Sørfjorden is pioneering work in Norway. Ullensvang municipality is a driving force in the project, but the process towards realization also requires the municipality to do things that have never been done before. Particularly central is how the municipality plays out its role in the exercise of authority against various regulations.
Bondhus-Jensen has overall administrative responsibility for both business development and regulations such as the Planning and Building Act in Ullensvang municipality.

Stian Jean Opedal Davies (Ap) is county deputy mayor in Vestland county municipality. Born in 1995 and educated as a lawyer at the University of Bergen. Has been in Askøy municipal council for a period from 2015-2019, and has been a representative in Vestland County Council since 2019. From Askøy.
Vestland is the most important export county in Norway and has a world-leading industry within several sectors. Vestland has the biggest emissions, but also the biggest opportunities. If Westland does not close, Norway does not close. Business policy and energy policy are decisive for maintaining welfare, cutting emissions and creating jobs in Vestland and Norway.
Vestland County Council has major targets for cutting emissions, and Grøn Region Vestland is one of the county council's most important industry-oriented instruments.

Since 2015, Østvik has been developing “green” ship projects in the Norwegian maritime cluster with a strong focus on implementing sustainable, safe, reliable zero-emission energy technology. He has been project manager for developing, building, certifying and setting world’s first LH2-driven ship, Norled’s M/F Hydra, into operation (2017-2023).
From 2023, he is focusing on developing and building various LH2-fuelled ship types for operation in North Europe as CEO/Founder of LH2 Shipping as well as coordinating the development of LH2 fuel supply chains in liaison with energy companies to secure LH2 as fuel towards future projects, incl. bunkering systems in ports. Previously he worked for NorWind 2006-2015 developing, building and installing jacket foundations for offshore wind turbines and LMG Marin 1995-2006 designing car ferries, fast ferries and offshore vessels. He graduated naval architect at University of Strathclyde (1995) where he also has a PhD in risk-based design (2000).

Sigmund Ø. Størset is a senior advisor at Enova where he primarily works on the topic of hydrogen and CCS. Knut has over 20 years' experience with research into hydrogen safety, linked to physical phenomena in hydrogen systems and consequences of incidents at e.g. emission of hydrogen. He leads the research group for Process Safety, Combustion and Explosions at USN, which is a partner in several EU and NFR-supported research projects in hydrogen safety. The research activities in the research group are within the safe design of hydrogen systems, pre-normative research and basic research on physical phenomena.

Tyssedal power station was built in stages, and was created by the architects Thorvald Astrup (1876-1940) and Victor Nordan (1862-1923), with newer additions by architect Geir Grung (1926-1989). Like the Ringedal Dam, it is reminiscent of medieval castle architecture.
The industrial community Tyssedal is a distinguished example of the growth of Norway as a modern industrial nation, after the union between Norway and Sweden was dissolved in 1905.
The community sheds light on the local industrial development until the large modern day industrial modernisations, and provides insight into areas that are not otherwise documented.
As a complete industrial community Tyssedal displays the historic epoch when hydropower production constituted the basis for Norwegian industrial production and growing wealth. The exploitation of the great waterfalls in the fjord areas and some inland areas gave rise to the industrial revolution in Norway.
